The leader wire

Which AI leaders are on the record this week?

What the people running AI said on the record in the last 7 days, in the words their publications printed. 7 of 20 are on the record this week across 10 lines; the other 13 are listed too, because a name missing from a list and a name with nothing beside it are different facts — 12 quiet, with the date they were last on the record, and 1 whose official sources did not answer this run, so their silence may be ours. Compiled 2026-10-15 03:45:39 UTC from the same 800-item corpus as the signal feed.

Separately, and never counted as anyone being on the record: the press ran 1751 stories naming these 20 people in the last 7 days (242 in the last 24 hours). Most covered: Satya Nadella 236, Mark Zuckerberg 214+, Dario Amodei 180+. Searched 2026-10-15 03:48:30 UTC.

Who is on the record: 7 of 20 leaders, 10 lines in 7 days7 of 20 on the record across 10 lines from 9 distinct items. In roster order: Sam Altman (OpenAI) no line; Dario Amodei (Anthropic) no line; Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) no line; Elon Musk (xAI) 1 line; Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) 1 line; Jensen Huang (Nvidia) 1 line; Satya Nadella (Microsoft) 2 lines; Sundar Pichai (Alphabet) no line; Mustafa Suleyman (Microsoft AI) no line; Koray Kavukcuoglu (Google DeepMind) 2 lines; Yann LeCun (AMI Labs) no line; Geoffrey Hinton (University of Toronto) 1 line; Yoshua Bengio (Mila, Université de Montréal) 2 lines; Arthur Mensch (Mistral AI) no line; Liang Wenfeng (DeepSeek) no line; Ilya Sutskever (Safe Superintelligence) no line; Mira Murati (Thinking Machines Lab) no line; Andrej Karpathy (Eureka Labs) no line; Greg Brockman (OpenAI) no line; Alex Karp (Palantir) no line.7/ 20ON THE RECORD10LINES9 ITEMS · 7DSam Altmanquiet · 1d silent—Dario Amodeiunreachable · 0/1 feeds—Demis Hassabisquiet · 0d silent—Elon Musk1 line · 1 source1Mark Zuckerberg1 line · 1 source1Jensen Huang1 line · 1 source1Satya Nadella2 lines · 1 source2Sundar Pichaiquiet · 0d silent—Mustafa Suleymanquiet · none on file—Koray Kavukcuoglu2 lines · 2 sources2Yann LeCunpress only—Geoffrey Hinton1 line · 1 source1Yoshua Bengio2 lines · 2 sources2Arthur Menschquiet · none on file—Liang Wenfengpress only—Ilya Sutskeverpress only—Mira Muratiquiet · none on file—Andrej Karpathyquiet · 2d silent—Greg Brockmanquiet · none on file—Alex Karpquiet · none on file—Who is on the record: 7 of 20 leaders, 10 lines in 7 days7 of 20 on the record across 10 lines from 9 distinct items. Fixed roster of 20, in the published order. A filled segment and a solid cell mean at least one headline named that person beside a speech cue in the last 7 days; a hollow segment and a dashed cell mean none did, which is a statement about this 800-item corpus and not about the person.

What does this page never do?

It never writes a quotation. Not a paraphrase, not a summary, not a tightened version of what somebody said. The only words attributed to a named person anywhere on this page are the headline, reproduced exactly as the publication printed it and linked to that publication. There is no transcript here, so there is no quotation here.

Attributing invented words to a living person is the one error this site could not recover from. A wrong number is checkable against a published formula; an invented sentence is checkable against nothing, and the person has to deny it. Headline-only means every line below can be verified in one click, by anyone, including by the person named in it.

A line is a headline that names one of these 20 people and carries a speech cue — said, told, interview, keynote, letter, or words in quotation marks, or the title of a post or video on the person's own official feed (or their organisation's, under their name), marked official. The cue is printed on every line, and its class matters: a document cue means a letter or a memo named the person, which may be by them or about them. NO LINE means nothing in this 800-item corpus or those feeds named that person beside a cue. It is not a claim that the person said nothing, and the matching vocabulary — including the 11 near-synonyms added beyond the published list — is in the data file.

Who is on the AI leaders roster?

The faces below are generated caricatures, drawn for this site in a retro game style: illustrations, not photographs, and not a claim about anyone. The name printed beside each one is the identification.

How do these lines cross-check against the lab feeds? The watch floor

The race page tracks a loudness signal for each lab's principal, and seven of its eight cells are empty — not because those people are quiet, but because the floor measures feeds we may lawfully fetch and almost none of them publish one. This wire measures a different thing: what publications printed. Where the floor is empty and the wire has lines, the wire is the better reading of whether the person spoke, and it names the outlet the line came from. Where both are empty, they are two separate silences, and neither is imputed from the other.

12 of the 20 people on this roster are not principals on the watch floor — Jensen Huang, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Mustafa Suleyman, Koray Kavukcuoglu, Yann LeCun, Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, Ilya Sutskever, Mira Murati, Andrej Karpathy, Alex Karp. For them the wire is the only reading, and it is labelled that way on the row rather than left to look like an agreement.

How does a line get onto this page?

The test
A headline in data/news.json is a line when it names a roster member — whole word, against the published alias table below — and carries a speech cue. Both conditions, every time. 4 headlines in this window named one of these people and carried no cue, and they were excluded rather than printed as speech.
The cues
34 core: say · says · said · saying · tell · tells · told · telling · warn · warns · warned · warning · warnings · argue · argues · argued · arguing · interview · interviews · interviewed · Q and A · Q&A · testify · testifies · testified · testimony · podcast · podcasts · keynote · keynotes · letter · letters · memo · memos, plus any words the publication put in double quotation marks in its own headline. 11 extended, and this is an editorial judgement rather than a measurement: talk · talks · talked · talking · speak · speaks · spoke · speaking · speech · quoted · remarks. Every line records which list caught it.
Cue classes
verb — the headline's own verb is an act of speech
appearance — the headline names a venue or a format — interview, podcast, keynote, testimony
document — a document names the person. It may be by them or about them; the headline is the only thing that can tell you, and it is printed in full
quote — the publication put words in quotation marks in its own headline
official — not a press headline: the title of an entry on the person's own feed, or on their organisation's official feed under their name
Official feeds
Beside the press corpus, the wire reads 27 official feeds — personal blogs, organisation newsrooms and official YouTube channels, all public and keyless, never X. 16 of 27 answered this run. A personal feed counts every post; an organisation's feed counts only entries bylined to the person or naming them. Every row lists its sources and which ones answered.
Three kinds of silence
quiet — At least one official source answered, and neither it nor the press carried anything from this person in the window.
sources unreachable — This person has official sources and none of them answered this run, so the silence may be ours rather than theirs.
no sources — No official feed is known for this person; the press wire is the only reading.
last on record — The newest dated statement this wire has ever attributed to the person — from the press window, the full history of their official feeds, or the memory carried forward from previous runs.
In the news
Separate from everything above. One exact-phrase Google News search per person (public RSS, no key), asked at most every 15 minutes. A story counts once per outlet and title, ever; the 14-day bars count distinct stories by the day they were published, and a day before tracking began is drawn as a flat dash, not a zero. Week over week: this 7 days against the 7 before. Shown only once a full previous week has been observed; flat inside ±10% or ±2 stories. Coverage is not a statement: a story naming someone never puts them on the record, and only the outlet's own headline is shown, linked. 20 of 20 searches have data.
Profiles

The roster
20 people, fixed order, never pruned. The matching vocabulary is data, not a heuristic: no fuzzy matching, no edit distance, no initial inference. If a spelling is not in the table it does not match.

Two names we deliberately do not match
Bare Huang and bare Liang are absent from the table. Both are among the commonest surnames on earth and this corpus carries chip-supply and research headlines by the hundred; a bare match would put a stranger's words under a named living person's row. Jensen and Wenfeng are distinctive enough to keep. For the same reason a bare surname preceded by a different given name is ruled out — Daniela Amodei is not Dario Amodei.
The window
7 days, 800 of 800 items scanned, oldest 2026-10-09. The corpus is capped at 800 items and on a busy week the cap binds long before the window does, so this is the last 800 items rather than a full seven days of everything published.
What it cannot see
Everything these people said that no outlet in our source list put in a headline. A podcast nobody wrote up, a post on X, a remark in a filing — all invisible here. 13 of 20 rows read no line this week, and that is a statement about this corpus, not about those people.

Matcher version 1.2.0. Every input behind this page is in api/leaders.json, including the cue, the class and the alias that matched on every single line.

What questions do people actually ask?

Which AI leaders are on the record this week?

7 of 20 are on the record this week across 10 lines in the last 7 days. Each line is a publication headline naming them beside a speech cue — not a leader doom score.

What does this page never do?

It never writes a quotation. Not a paraphrase, not a summary, not a tightened version of what somebody said. The only words attributed to a named person anywhere on this page are the headline, reproduced exactly as the publication printed it and linked to that publication.

Who is on the AI leaders roster?

20 people on a fixed roster. The faces are generated caricatures — illustrations, not photographs. The name printed beside each one is the identification.

How do these lines cross-check against the lab feeds?

The race page tracks a loudness signal for each lab's principal. This wire measures a different thing: what publications printed. Where the floor is empty and the wire has lines, the wire is the better reading of whether the person spoke.

How does a line get onto this page?

A headline in data/news.json is a line when it names a roster member — whole word, against the published alias table — and carries a speech cue. Both conditions, every time.

Does SIREN invent quotations for AI leaders?

No. It never writes a quotation. The only words attributed to a named person anywhere on this page are the headline, reproduced exactly as the publication printed it. Activity tempo, not probability of harm.

Does SIREN publish a leader doom score?

No. Activity tempo, not probability of harm. The leader wire lists on-record headlines — not a ranking of how dangerous a person is.

Who is on the record?

At least one line in the window, from the press or from their own official feed.

Who is quiet this week?

Nothing in the window. Their sources answered (or they have none but the press), so this is a reading of them.

Who is unreachable this run?

Nothing in the window, and none of their official sources answered this run — this silence may be ours, not theirs.
