Questions about canning and food preservation
Pressure canner or water bath canner?
The USDA says low-acid foods such as vegetables, meat and beans need a pressure canner. High-acid foods such as most fruit, jams and pickles can use a boiling-water bath.
Where do I find safe canning recipes?
Use tested recipes, such as the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning and the National Center for Home Food Preservation.
Can I reuse canning lids?
Standard two-piece lids are single-use. Reusable lids are sold separately and have their own instructions.
